I can’t believe that it’s the first of October. Where on earth has the year gone? I know that there is a school of thought that says that as we get older the time passes more quickly, but this is ridiculous! Of course, being a doer of three jobs, taxi driver for one teenager, grandparent of one small person, amateur thespian and maker of jars of stuff does all take up much time but still, time is flying by, scarily fast. It’s sad in a way that the summer has come to an end (not that you’d think so today on the very sunny Isle) but I always look forward to those winter evenings in front of the fire, casseroles and stews and the excuse for having mashed potato and gravy with just about anything.
The past year has been one of ups and downs and probably in that respect no different from most other people’s lives and it has been challenging in more ways than one. I embarked (and disembarked) on a new romance, almost got divorced (don’t ask, it’s complicated!) and rekindled a very old romance. My daughter got married on a beautiful summer’s day in my garden filled with friends and family and lots of laughter. My son did brilliantly in his exams and has started 6th form college on the mainland, a steep learning curve for both of us especially given the early mornings that we now have. On other fronts I have rediscovered the pleasure of writing, worked my self into a decline in the garden, spent proper time with friends and family, seen my granddaughter turn one, changed jobs and laid many demons to rest. In comparison to this time last year I am in really good shape (sadly not physically!), things have changed for the better, the karma seems good and I am looking forward with an optimism that I had forgotten I had. I have, as my year long horoscope suggested, rediscovered my inner goat and more than one person has remarked that I seem more like my old self. Life isn’t perfect, that would be impossible, but in the great scheme of things it’s not half bad.
Oh yes and while we’re talking about time, it’s only 84 days till Christmas….!
