They don’t let me out on the town much in this job – but yesterday I went on a little road trip to visit one of my great big ginormous ships in London. The weather was fabulous and the ship was berthed in Silvertown discharging raw cane sugar at Tate & Lyle.
The ship has huge (and I mean 11 meter deep huge) hatches that the sugar is transported in. It’s hard to convey the hugeness of all this but I’ve tried…
I had a guided tour from the Captain who is an excitable Romanian called Marius Apostle (fab name!) who was very courteous and helpful and who talked nineteen to the dozen. I now feel like I know a bit more about where things are and what they do which will be endlessly helpful and might make me sound as though I know what I’m talking about!
Slivertown is right next to the Thames barrier and the O2 stadium so the scenery was pretty good too (unfortunately I only took my little camera so the picture isn’t great but you get the gist)
It was nice to get out and about having been office bound for the last 5 months or so and nice to put a face to the many e mails and phone calls. All in all, a jolly good day!
