Now Dear Reader. We all know that boys will be boys and none so much as TG and Mr Folly. They decided to buy themselves a little pressie and here she blows…
It’s what’s known as a RIB (a rigid inflatable boat – or a blow up dinghy as my Mother scathingly referred to it!) and the boys thought that it might be fun for the Summer. Aptly named FUBAR (look it up if you don’t know) it’s a 22 feet long powerful bit of kit. TG decided on his return from far afield that we really ought to have a go on it and so on Saturday afternoon we did.
We motored up river to Newport harbour
And then back to Cowes passing all sorts of interesting boats old and ancient
We were a teeny bit brave (neither of us really being sailors or in fact really knowing what we are doing) and went out of the safety of the river and into the Solent so that TG could indulge his inner speed freak
And then we headed back in for home
TG was of course the Captain
Despite a bruised shin and nearly taking the top of my finger off with a rope, a good afternoon was had by all. We tied her up and repaired back home to warm up and have a well earned glass of vino (it’s hard work this sailing lark you know!). I don’t think that ribbing will be my favourite pursuit – it’s a boys thing really but there is talk of going over to Southampton on Wednesday night for our weekly curry… now that I CAN live with!
